I love this, and actually said it yesterday to my company's co founder as someone who also just "broke in" to ed tech. Shifting perspective and recognizing the experience you bring as an educator is so important! It allowed me to peruse ed-tech companies that valued my teaching background and avoid those that didn't. Not to mention, teaching is hard... I've literally put out fires and broken up fights before guiding guiding students back to a learning objective. If you can teach successfully, you can probably be successful in any other role.

The book that changed everything I thought I knew about habits

And how I use it to learn language. — And once you understand that habits can change, you have the freedom and the responsibility to remake them. -Charles Duhigg The alarm was blaring. “Nope,” I thought, hitting the snooze button. What seemed like a second later it was going again. “Not happening.” Snooze. This happened two more times before…

Defeating meal prep

Case Study: How I use learning design and UX design to defeat my enemies — My best designs have come from when I have a deep personal struggle with a problem. When I was younger, I had a speech impediment so bad that no one could understand what I was saying. …

Spatial design for better habits

The ultimate user journey — My mom was an interior designer, and if I do say so myself, a very good one. She was good not because she had the most creative designs or the best color combinations, she worked for the military so she used a lot of greens and beiges. What made her…

What is your favorite thing about your career? When I’m interviewing a user and I find out that they use a product completely differently than how I expected they would Would you rather have a home on the beach or in the mountains?

Why I’m starting the new year with design mantras instead of resolutions

How studying UX, habit, and decision making has helped me simplify the process of becoming a better person. — I’ve never done well with New Year’s resolutions. Admittedly, part of this has to do with discipline, but a lot of it is that I just forget what my New Year’s resolutions are. They’re usually a list of 10 or more things I’d like to get done by the end…

I tried running a design sprint by myself… Here’s what worked, and what didn’t

What happened I was in Gordon Ramsay’s kitchen and he was telling me how to cook a chicken supreme with roasted vegetables (supreme is a fancy way to say breast…I didn’t know either). He told me to turn on the oven and salt the chicken breast. “What temperature?” I asked… He kept…
